Inspired Arrangements

Change the look and feel of your room with simple changes in how you arrange your pillows

Choosing the right throw pillows for your living room can be a daunting task. When shopping for throw pillows, it’s easy to become overwhelmed with questions about which sizes to buy, how many to choose, and how to arrange them. Fear not! There are some simple tips to follow to ensure you get the most stylish outcome.

Throw pillows look best when arranged in various sizes. On a typical couch, a 22″ pillow + a 20″ pillow on each end is ideal. For larger couches with higher back cushions, you can size up and use a 24″ pillow + a 22″ pillow on each end. It’s essential to mix pillow sizes with larger pillows in the back and other sizes layered in front. You can also throw in lumbar pillows for an excellent combination.

The key to having full, attractive pillows is to choose inserts that are two inches larger than the size of your pillow covers. Down/feather combinations or down-alternative inserts are fantastic options compared to polyester pillow inserts.

Finally, how much you chop your pillows is up to you! Remember, there are no right or wrong answers in this aspect of pillow arrangement.

Colors & Patterns

Color Palette

When selecting throw pillow color combinations, it’s important to consider the existing color palette of the room and aim to find hues that complement or contrast in a pleasing way. One tip is to choose one dominant color from the room’s color scheme to pull into the pillow design. Another option is to select pillows with colors that are directly opposite on the color wheel for a bold, complementary look. Additionally, incorporating neutrals or metallics in the pillow design can add visual interest without overwhelming the space. It’s also helpful to vary the texture and pattern of the pillows, while keeping the color palette cohesive. Don’t be afraid to experiment with unconventional color combinations or mix and match patterns and textures for an eclectic look.

Pattern Selection

Selecting patterns and prints for throw pillows can be tricky. It is important to consider the size of the pillows. Oversized prints can look overwhelming on small pillows, while small prints may get lost on larger pillows.

When mixing patterns, aim for a balance of scale and color to prevent the space from feeling too busy or chaotic. Use solid-colored pillows to break up patterns and provide a visual resting place for the eyes.

Lastly, it’s important to consider the durability and maintenance of the fabric. Make sure to select fabrics that are easy to clean and maintain, especially if the pillows will be used frequently.
